A life shaped by wild places.

Our name comes from Enkare, the Maa word for water—the source of life and, more often than not, the beginning of a good journey.

For more than seventy years, the Russell family has been part of East African tourism and conservation: guiding safaris, managing lodges and travelling through some of the continent’s most remarkable wilderness areas.

That inheritance is practical rather than ceremonial. It means knowing how a journey should be paced, which details genuinely matter and when it is best to leave the itinerary alone and watch what the bush decides to do.

Fishing followed naturally. What began as a fascination with Africa’s rivers and coastlines developed into a search for remote fisheries across the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea and beyond. Preferably places where the fish have not yet read the brochure.

What we do

We create tailor-made African safaris, privately guided journeys and exploratory fishing expeditions.

From Kenya’s great plains to remote islands, rivers and saltwater flats, each itinerary is designed around the people travelling—not around a fixed departure schedule.

Some destinations are operated directly by Enkare Wild. Elsewhere, we work with a small circle of guides, camps and outfitters whom we know personally. They share our standards, our respect for wild places and our conviction that good hospitality need not announce itself too loudly.

How we travel

We believe luxury is found in space, privacy, excellent people and things working properly.

It may mean a beautifully run safari camp, a temporary fishing camp on an uninhabited island or simply having enough time to follow tracks rather than hurry towards lunch.

Whatever the destination, the principles remain constant: thoughtful planning, experienced guiding, personal service and the freedom to respond to the unexpected.
